Digital strategy

Digital methods and tools are indispensable for academics and researchers working in all disciplines nowadays. The Bavarian Academy of Sciences and Humanities pursues a number of objectives with its digital strategy.

Digital visibility

All Academy projects and institutes have their own websites with convenient access to publications and research data.
Overview

Open Access

The Academy’s publications and research data are generally made available Creative Commons license CC-BY 4.0 on an open access basis. Research software is available under the open source Apache 2.0 license.

Research and development

Digital tools and methods are used and continually developed throughout all research phases of the Academy’s projects. The Academy’s digital humanities unit also explores the latest digital technologies for use in future research endeavours.

Permanence and long-term archiving

The digital publications and research data are made available online on a permanent basis following completion of a project. Additional long-term archiving is provided in the cold data systems of the Leibniz Supercomputing Centre.

Collaboration and networking

Under the umbrella of the Akademienunion Union of German Academies of Sciences and Humanities), the Academy collaborates with its counterparts to find integrated solutions to ensure interconnection and interoperability of digital publications and data collections. It is also a member of several consortia contributing to the German research data infrastructure association Nationalen Forschungsdateninfrastruktur (NFDI).

At the local level, the Academy partners with other Munich-based educational and cultural institutions in the dhmuc network (digital humanities in Munich) to promote digitalisation in culture, education and the humanities.

Organisation

Responsibility for implementing the digital strategy lies with Digital humanities - research and development, with support from Digitale infrastructure.
