Field office in northern Bavaria
The Schelling Forum was named after philosopher Friedrich Wilhelm Joseph Schelling (1775-1854), who was a key figure in German idealism. His life and work form a connection between the two partner institutes of the Schelling Forum. Schelling was a professor at the University of Würzburg between 1803 and 1805 and he served as President of the Academy in Munich from 1827 to 1842.
The mission of the Forum is to promote interdisciplinary research projects, provide networking opportunities for scientists, support talented young scholars from a wide variety of fields and foster dialogue between the scientific community and society.
