New Perspectives. Cuneiform Artefacts from Archaeological Contexts.

Conference / Tagung

Cuneiform artefacts originating from archaeological contexts can be situated within a framework that is spatially, temporally, and materially defined. The findspots of cuneiform texts can offer fundamental insights into the builders of temples or palaces, or the scribes accountable for collecting clay tablets. Spurred by the resumption of excavation activities in Iraq and by the ongoing projects on reconstruction of ancient archives, the archaeological contexts of cuneiform artefacts are receiving increasing interest. The interdisciplinary dialogue between Near Eastern archaeology and cuneiform philology will further explore how the archaeological context of discoveries can be used when editing and processing sources, especially in digital format.
