Statutes of the Fund for the Award of the Friedrich Wilhelm Joseph von Schelling Academy Prize

The Bavarian Academy of Sciences and Humanities has established a fund for the award of the Friedrich Wilhelm Joseph von Schelling Academy Prize and has adopted these Statutes.

Section 1 Fund assets

The fund’s assets are derived from funds paid into the Society of Friends of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences and Humanities for the purpose of financing the Friedrich Wilhelm Joseph von Schelling Academy Prize. To this end, E.ON Energie AG, Prof. Dr Wilhelm Simson and Prof. Dr Heinrich Nöth have so far provided funding. The Academy aims to ensure the prize’s long-term continuation by increasing the fund through the acquisition of further donations, bequests and similar contributions, which will enable the prize money to be financed from capital income.

Section 2 Legal status

The fund is not legally independent. Its assets form part of the Academy’s assets as a special-purpose fund and are managed by the Academy’s Executive Committee in accordance with its Statutes.

Section 3 Schelling Prize

The Friedrich Wilhelm Joseph von Schelling Academy Prize, which is endowed with 25,000 euros and is generally awarded every two years for outstanding academic achievements in accordance with the relevant Statutes, is financed from the fund’s assets and the capital income generated therefrom.

Any income that cannot be used in a financial year in accordance with the foundation’s purpose may be set aside for distribution at a later date or added to the capital.

Section 4 Amendments to the Statutes

These Statutes may be amended by a unanimous resolution of the Executive Committee and the Academy’s plenary meeting.
