MedRen 2023: The International Medieval and Renaissance Music Conference

The International Medieval and Renaissance Music Conference is the largest academic conference in Europe in the field of musicology. MedRen is also considered to be the central forum worldwide for the exchange of current research in the field of music culture of the Middle Ages and the Early Modern Period. It is considered the most important meeting place for established and young scholars alike. The conference is organised annually by different university locations: after Uppsala (2022), Lisbon (2021), Edinburgh (2020), Basel (2019), the conference will return to Germany for the first time in over 20 years (Jena 2003). In 2023, the city of Munich will celebrate the 500th anniversary of the founding of the Munich Court Chapel. To mark this occasion, an interdisciplinary conference will be held immediately after MedRen with the title “1523|2023 The Munich Court Chapel at 500. Tradition, Devotion, Representation“.
