Functional molecules on surfaces

Workshop im Rahmen des Jungen Kollegs

The interest in studying molecular nanostructures on surfaces emerges from their prospective applications in nanoscale electronics, solar cells and energy storage devices. Scanning probe microscopy has become an essential tool in the emerging field of nanoscience, as the structure and reaction of single molecules or atoms on surfaces can be visualized. The aim of the workshop is to give a direct view to functional molecular structures on surfaces through fascinating images and experiments obtained by high-resolution scanning probe microscopy. Thereby, fundamental aspects of molecules adsorbed to metallic and insulating surfaces will be discussed. We mainly focus on single molecule experiments, the dynamics of molecules, intermolecular interactions leading to the formation of self-assembled structures on surfaces and on-surface reactions to form novel functional molecular networks. Young scientists (PhD students and PostDocs) are encouraged to participate and contribute with posters about their current research to the workshop.
