SUMMARY:Understanding interfaces for solar energy conversion
DESCRIPTION:In the field of solar energy conversion, the properties of semi
conductors and their interfaces are exploited, for example, to convert sola
r light into electronic energy with photovoltaic devices for immediate use,
or to generate storable solar fuels through photoelectrochemical conversio
n and artificial photosynthesis. For these technologies, current research a
ctivities focus on the development of new semiconductor materials, and nove
l design concepts, as well as improved understanding through advanced in-si
tu characterization and theoretical calculations. In this workshop, researc
hers will present recent advances in the broader field of solar energy conv
ersion ranging from synthesis of semiconductors light absorbers and their h
eterostructures, aspects of material stability to fundamental understanding
of interface properties under operation conditions. +++ The workshop will
be in person and the number of participants is limited to 30. According to
the current requirements, all participants need proof of full vaccination,
recovery, or a negative antigen test that is not older than 24 hours.+++
