SUMMARY:Advanced Semiconductors and Nanosystems: Energy Conversion and Beyo
 nd
DESCRIPTION:Semiconductor materials play an important role in many technolo
gical applications, most notably in integrated circuits, but also in energy
conversion such as photovoltaics, thermoelectrics, or photocatalysis. In t
he field of solar energy conversion, the properties of semiconductors are e
xploited, for example, to convert solar light into electronic energy with p
hotovoltaic devices for immediate use, or to generate storable solar fuels
through photoelectrochemical conversion and artificial photosynthesis. For
these technologies, current research activities focus on the development of
new semiconductor materials, and novel material design concepts to optimiz
e the functional properties for efficient solar energy conversion. In this
workshop, researchers will present recent advances in the broader field of
solar energy conversion ranging from synthesis of semiconductor nanosystems
and heterostructures, aspects of material stability to fundamental underst
 anding of (opto)electronic properties.
