SUMMARY:Technology and routines at the individual and organizational level
DESCRIPTION:Individuals and teams in organizations often interact in settin
gs where technical aspects prevail. In such settings, routines serve to imp
rove efficiency throughout the organization. Recent technology that focuses
on the interaction of humans and machines often ignores routines as an inh
erent human trait, and the literature on routines and organizational learni
ng widely ignores technology thus far. This workshop contributes to a bette
r understanding of the role that routines play in technology, particularly
for making machines smarter and their interaction more frequent and intelli
gent. Simultaneously, this workshop sheds more light on the question of how
technology infl uences routines in organizations. This workshop combines b
oth perspectives and fosters discussions between experts from different fie
lds. Basic research questions: What differentiates routines from rigid scri
pted behaviour? How do routines develop? What influences their development
and how can they change? Are routines beneficial for individuals and organi
 zations or not?
