DESCRIPTION:Based on a critical assessment of the endeavors which were unde
 rtaken by Muslim scholars since the middle of the nineteenth century to har
 monize Islamic traditions with modernity, the lecture will discuss most rec
 ent developments and debates subsequent to the Arab Uprisings in order to p
 resent how contemporary religious discourses in Islam deal with major polit
 ical and religious issues related to authoritative sacred texts.
