SUMMARY:Functional molecules on surfaces
DESCRIPTION:The interest in studying molecular nanostructures on surfaces e
merges from their prospective applications in nanoscale electronics, solar
cells and energy storage devices. Scanning probe microscopy has become an e
ssential tool in the emerging field of nanoscience, as the structure and re
action of single molecules or atoms on surfaces can be visualized. The aim
of the workshop is to give a direct view to functional molecular structures
on surfaces through fascinating images and experiments obtained by high-re
solution scanning probe microscopy. Thereby, fundamental aspects of molecul
es adsorbed to metallic and insulating surfaces will be discussed. We mainl
y focus on single molecule experiments, the dynamics of molecules, intermol
ecular interactions leading to the formation of self-assembled structures o
n surfaces and on-surface reactions to form novel functional molecular netw
orks. Young scientists (PhD students and PostDocs) are encouraged to partic
ipate and contribute with posters about their current research to the works
 hop.
